The Alzheimer's Process
Top Ten Causes
By Steven E. Rubin, MD
The truth is we usually do know the reasons why people develop Alzheimer's.
We are touched by dementia. Whether we visit or provide care for someone with dementia or know someone who does, it’s challenging to observe the decline of a once vital loved one. Dementia is a robber of time and of life.
Society and physicians share a moral responsibility to understand dementia and Alzheimer’s, and it’s our goal to eradicate it. Many organizations are devoted to providing services and comfort to those who are afflicted. Research efforts, medication development, and education strive to someday prevent dementia from happening and best temper its course when it does.
At the same time, so much information about dementia is being disseminated that it’s becoming increasingly important to differentiate between objective, honest knowledge and that of marketing influences. Dementia is a devastating disease and also a multi-billion dollar industry.
The intent of this book is to convey, in brief and easily understood chapters, accurate and non-commercial information about the roots of dementia and Alzheimer’s. Though I present them as separate causes, it is my fervent hope that you will see how tightly they’re interconnected.
